KENYA’S Directorate Of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Has Issued A Warning About The Growing Cases Of Violent Robberies Targeting People Lured Through Online Dating And Friendship Platforms. According To The Agency, Both Kenyan Citizens And Foreign Visitors Are Falling Victim After Being Invited To Unfamiliar Or Private Locations.
DCI Says Criminals Build Fake Emotional Connections Online To Gain Trust And Collect Sensitive Information, Especially Financial Details. They Then Use This Information To Harm Victims Either Financially Or Physically. These Online Scammers Are Described As Experts In Creating False Relationships For Their Own Benefit.
To Stay Safe, DCI Advises The Public To Be Cautious When Using Dating Sites And Only Communicate With People They Know Or Can Verify. Users Should Watch Out For Suspicious Profiles, Avoid Sharing Personal Or Financial Details, And Always Confirm Identities Before Trusting Anyone Online.
For In-Person Meetings, DCI Recommends Choosing Public And Secure Places Such As Restaurants Or Malls And Informing Friends Or Family About The Meeting. Anyone Who Feels Unsafe Or Notices Suspicious Behavior Is Urged To Cut Communication Immediately And Seek Help.
